Signs you’ve got this bug

  • Your site shows “There has been a critical error on this website.”
  • A blank white page, or you can’t get into wp-admin.
  • Something stopped working right after you updated a plugin, theme or WordPress.
  • Layouts look broken, buttons don’t work or popups won’t close.
  • Two plugins do the same job and fight each other (e.g. two caching or two SEO plugins).

Why it happens

Every plugin is written by a different developer and tested on its own, not alongside your exact mix of theme and plugins. When one updates, it can clash with another or need a newer PHP version than your hosting runs.

Abandoned plugins, “nulled” (pirated) plugins, duplicate functionality and theme customisations that override plugin files are the usual suspects.

How we fix it

  1. Get you back onlineWhere possible we safely switch off the failing plugin first, so customers can shop again.
  2. Find the real conflictUsing error logs and a safe test copy, not trial and error on your live store.
  3. Fix or replaceUpdate, patch, reconfigure, or swap the plugin for a better-maintained one.
  4. Update safely next timeBackups and a sensible update routine, so the next update doesn’t take you down.

Questions

What does “There has been a critical error on this website” mean?

A PHP error stopped WordPress from loading, usually from a plugin, theme or PHP version conflict. The details are in your error log.

Can I just roll back the update?

Sometimes, as a stopgap. But the conflict is still there. We fix the cause, so you can keep updating safely.

Can you build a custom plugin instead?

Yes. When off-the-shelf plugins don’t fit, we build custom WooCommerce plugins for exactly what you need.
